Music with Miss Huggins

"One song can change a moment, one idea can change the world, one step can start a journey, but a prayer can CHANGE the impossible".

This past month we have focused on music and the importance of praying as we sing our church music. As we continue our journey during Lent, several students have read and analyzed lyrics to church hymns in discussion with one another before we start our class lessons. If you don’t read the lyrics to church hymns, I suggest checking it out. For me, lyrical reading is one of the best parts of my day.

Each week Holy Redeemer’s classes and choirs sing for mass, so I want to take time and invite you to our weekly masses on Tuesday at 8AM. The schedule for March is as follows:
Holy Redeemer Music for Mass
  • 3rd Grade- March 6th
  • 6-8 Choir - March 13th
  • 3-5 Choir- March 20th

March is “Music in our Schools” month.
Kindergarten and 1st Grade are learning the difference between beat, rhythm, high, low, tempo, as well as singing several action songs in music class.
2nd Grade is getting ready to take a journey around the world as we learn music of many different cultures.
3rd Grade is learning to read notes and rhythms by playing with handchimes.
4th and 5th Grade will be going to the Children’s Museum to hear the Philharmonic Orchestra.
Mater Dei’s Feeder Band with our band teacher, Mrs. Goth will be performing at Holy Redeemer for the 3rd and 4th Grade on March 21st. We hope to see many students join band during their 5th Grade year and continue during their school career at Holy Redeemer. (Remember, it does take time and practice, but your hard work will be worth it in the long run).
Monte Skelton will be visiting and playing for junior high music classes on March 23rd.
6th-8th Grade is working on Annie Jr, Keyboards, Band, Choir, Percussion.
Also, the Mater Dei Feeder Band Concert is April 18th in Mater Dei’s auditorium. - There are over 180 students involved in Mater Dei’s Feeder Band Program. The band would love to see you at their performance!
Lastly, and most importantly, your support of Holy Redeemer’s Fine and Related Arts does not go unnoticed, so if I don’t say it enough- “thank you for supporting us”!
